Probably the best moulded front from
The Antiques Source to date.
Made in 2 parts, easier to get it up awkward early staircases.
Panelled sides.
Nice chunky mouldings to the top, waist and bottom.
The oak lined drawers are side hung. As would be expected in a piece of this age there is wear to the drawer runners which have had some restoration.
Old replacement stiles, and old replacement brass handles.
Some signs of long dead historic woodworm. Wax finish.

Small 6 Plank Oak Coffer Possibly made for a Child.

A diminutive coffer, dating back to the late 17th early 18th century. Simple gouge/scratch carving. Moulded top
It has seen life and has accordingly had some rustic repairs. The original wire hinges, see the holes on the top where these were, have been replaced much later in life with conventional metal hinges Look carefully and you can see on the back plank where the original hinges have pulled out and there are 2 rustic repairs.
To the front the wood is patched where the original metal lock has been forced open and the plate has been replaced with a brass escutcheon. Front of feet possibe replacements. The foot on the left hand side plank to the back has a piece spliced in.
With the exception of the replacement hinges all of these repairs are early.
The wax finish adds to the fine colour and patina.

Undoubtedly the earliest coffer handled by The Antiques Source. C. 1600’s.
Original height. All pegged. Original wire hinges.
Only the top remains of the candle or glove box.
Single plank top, sides and back.
Long dead woodworm have caused damage as would be expected in a piece of this age.
The carvings and the readed stiles and frames have been inlaid, but much of this is missing.
Rare to find one standing at its original height, as most coffers of this age have had their supports/feet cut down due to age related damage.
Fabulous colour and patina….If you love early furniture then this is one for you…..
How I wish we had room to keep this piece!

Early Carved Oak Table Top Bible Box.

C. Early 1700’s.
Simple floriate carving to the front of this heavy box.
The sides and back have channel moulding, done with a scratch stock or moulding plane.
Original long metal hinges. Original shaped 2 key lock plate. An early replacement lock, not working.
The bottom of the box has been replaced at some time.
Some signs of long dead woodworm.

Panelled coffer with 3 panelled top and original loop hinges dating to the 1700's.
I believe the gouge carving, and the moulds around the carved panels to the front
are later than the body of the coffer.

Early Pine Mule Chest Amazing Fruitwood Colour.

This Georgian mule chest has been a part of our own collection for many years.
Moulded top over 2 fielded panels to the front, with panelled sides and back. Raised on stiles. Candle/glove box in the interior.
Pine is a soft wood and there is wear and tear to the moulds and on the drawers where the drop handles have rubbed over time.
The brass escutcheon is missing on the left hand drawer.
